Islam emphasizes protecting the vulnerable and preventing the abuse of power. Sexual abuse violates those exact Islamic laws and traditions. It is a crime with no excuses and no justification. Above all, it is never the victim’s fault.

Panel of Speakers
Dr. Sarah Syed works as a post-doctoral Clinical Psychologist at Khalil Center. She has an interest in the mental health needs of Muslims and Muslim families. Her doctoral dissertation was titled, “Attitudes Among Muslim Americans toward Psychotherapy.”
Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans instructs through Ta’leef Collective and the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), in addition to his position as scholar-in-residence at the American Learning Institute for Muslims (ALIM). He has studied at Chicagoland’s Institute of Islamic Education (IIE), in Tarim, Yemen, and Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.
Shaykh Hamzah Maqbul studied traditional Islamic studies in countries across the world, including Syria, Egypt, Mauritania, the UAE, and Pakistan. He has taught as a resident scholar at the Thawr Institute and at Darul Qasim. He is currently the Imam with the Muslim Association of Greater Rockford and serves on the Board of Directors at Khalil Center.
