Please join The Middle Eastern Law Student Association in welcoming esteemed Islamic studies professor, Carl Ernst, to speak at UNC School of Law on the subject of Islamophobia in the United States. He will discuss his book, “Islamophobia in America: The Anatomy of Intolerance,” which explores the way that differences of religion, race, and gender have been used to portray Muslims as threatening “out-groups,” just as other minorities (Catholics, Jews, blacks) have been attacked in the past. Professor Ernst is the Kenan Distinguished Professor of Islamic studies at the Department of Religious Studies at UNC Chapel Hill. He is also the co-director of the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations.
