U.S. Arabs, Others to Engage in National Service Day on Saturday, May 11
About 2,000 Arab Americans and others in 12 communities across the U.S. are volunteering their time as part of the National Arab American Service Day.
It’s happening Saturday, May 11, from Houston to Boston and San Francisco to Philadelphia, as well as in Atlanta, Miami and Philadelphia.
About 400 people are expected to work in Detroit’s Old Redford area planting gardens, boarding up abandoned homes, painting murals and other projects. The city’s metro area has one of the largest communities of Arabs outside the Middle East.
Volunteers in New York plan to clean up homes hit by Superstorm Sandy.
The 9th annual event is organized by the Dearborn-based National Network for Arab American Communities. It’s a coalition of 23 Arab American community nonprofit groups in 11 states. You can learn more by visiting http://nnaac.org/
