Toronto Palestine Film Festival 2010 Launches On Land Day
The Toronto Palestine Film Festival (TPFF) is pleased to announce TPFF 2010 will take place on October 2-8, 2010.
Land Day, marked today by Palestinians around the world, is the anniversary commemorating the deep connection between Palestinians and their ancestral land. ?TPFF 2010 will showcase films that explore this relationship from different perspectives and themes including farmers, youth, women, and the environment,? explains festival coordinator Rafeef Ziadah.
TPFF launches its third year with the debut of its 2010 campaign ? With Love from Palestine and its newly designed website www.tpff.ca. The TPFF 2010 season commences with a launch party and co-presentations at other Toronto film festivals.
With Love From Palestine: TPFF Launch Party, happening April 29th, 2010, will be a night to celebrate TPFF 2010 with Toronto’s hottest DJs at The Stealth Lounge. The launch party is the first of many events planned leading up to the festival in October.
On April 1, 2010, TPFF is co-presenting the opening night film at Images Festival. Port of Memory, directed by Palestinian director Kamal Aljaafari, is a portrait of a neighbourhood and its residents in the port city of Jaffa. The screening takes place at the Bloor Cinema (7pm) and is screened with TPFF advisory board member John Greyson?s film Covered.
TPFF will also be co-presenting Aisheen [still alive in Gaza] at Hot Docs. Screening May 3, 2010 at 9:30, Isabella Bader Theatre; and May 6 at 1:30, ROM Theatre, the documentary captures the human suffering and devastation wrought on Gaza?s Palestinian residents as they struggle to survive after Israel?s January 2009 offensive.
Established in 2008 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Nakba, TPFF celebrates film as an art form and means of expression by showcasing the vibrant heritage, resilience, and collective identity of the Palestinian people.
