The Embassy of Lebanon to the US Mourns the Loss of Former Minister Ambassador Mohamad Chatah

posted on: Jan 11, 2014

The tremendous loss of former Minister and Ambassador Mohamad Chatah hit not only his family and his friends but hit all of Lebanon in so many tragic ways. The killing of Mohamad Chatah besides being a heinous crime, aimed specially at eliminating so many virtues in Lebanon as moderation, reason, deep thinking and the will to understand the opponents and reach fort hem. Mohamad personified all this.

Among the many posts Mohamad Chatah held, he was a brilliant Ambassador of Lebanon to the U.S. between 1997 -2000. He represented our country in a very efficient and dignified way as many officials in Washington as well as Americans from Lebanese descent know very well. Despite the passed years since he left the Embassy, Ambassador Chatah is still remembered by so many in this U.S. Capital let it be in the American political circles or at the IMF or in the think tanks community. He had a clear thinking which he translated so eloquently and convincingly to his interlocutors and to the general public. Mohamad Chatah, the Finance Minister, the Vice Governor of the Central Bank, the Ambassador to the U.S., the man, the husband, the father will always be remembered as a man of principles who stood for what he believed right.

We at the Embassy of Lebanon in Washington mourn deeply a great Ambassador and friend who cared for everyone and succeeded in giving the best image of Lebanon.

My thoughts and prayers and those of my colleagues at the Embassy go to his family and to all of Lebanon as Mohamad Chatah served his country in a very truthful way.
