Take Action: Demand the Release of Khader Adnan
ADC calls on the Obama Administration to pressure Israeli officials to immediately release Palestinian prisoner, Khader Adnan, who has been illegally detained and held against his will for over two months. ADC urges all members to take action and contact the Obama administration immediately.
Khader Adnan, a 33-year-old Palestinian baker and father of two, was arrested by the Israeli military on December 17. He was not charged with any crime. The following day, Mr. Adnan began a hunger strike in protest of his detention. Now, 66 days later, his hunger strike continues, as he remains in Israeli prison without charge or trial.
Mr. Adnan is not alone — Israel has held thousands of Palestinians, including children, without trial, charges or evidence of any crime. This practice, known as administrative detention, allows Israel to simply deprive Palestinians of their freedom without any legal or evidentiary basis. Administrative detention is a blatant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Commenting on Mr. Adnan’s situation, ADC President Warren David stated, “To defend fundamental principles of universal human rights and for the sake of its own standing in the Middle East, the United States must clearly and unequivocally call on Israel to immediately release Khader Adnan.”
