Senator Mitchell is respected throughout the government and is an expert on security and the Middle East. He led the committee that published the 2001 Report entitled The Mitchell Report on the Al-Aqsa Intifadeh and served as the U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from January 2009 to May 2011. Senator Mitchell’s distinguished career in public service included his tenure of Senate majority leader.
