Senator Daniel K. Inouye and Mrs. Irene Hirano Inouye to Visit Arab Museum
The Arab American National Museum (AANM) is honored to welcome U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) and his wife, Irene Hirano Inouye, to the Museum at 4:30 p.m. this Tuesday, April 3, for a tour of its current exhibition Patriots & Peacemakers: Arab Americans in Service to Our Country.
The exhibition documents the service of Arab Americans in the U.S. Armed Forces, the Peace Corps and the diplomatic corps. After completing its run at the AANM June 10, 2012, Patriots & Peacemakers is scheduled to travel to several U.S. cities.
Senator Inouye, the current chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and the Defense Subcommittee on Appropriations, is a longtime supporter of the AANM.
Irene Hirano Inouye, the former president and founding director of the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles and current president of the U.S. Japan Council, was a key mentor to AANM Director Dr. Anan Ameri as the Arab museum was in its infancy and remains a trusted advisor.
In addition, the AANM is currently presenting an exhibition created by the JANM, Fighting for Democracy: Who is the “We” in “We, the People”?, as a companion to Patriots & Peacemakers; both run through June 10, 2012. While Patriots & Peacemakers focuses on Arab Americans in public service, Fighting for Democracy presents the stories of several culturally diverse individuals whose World War II experiences led to activism and democratic change.
Media representatives are welcome to cover the visit.
