Not A Very Safe Dance – Prince Charles Joins In With Festivities By Dancing With A SWORD

The Prince of Wales joins in with a traditional Sword dance in the old town of Al Ula

The Prince of Wales often wears a sword for ceremonial occasions – but rarely has the opportunity to dance with one.Surrounded by Arab tribesmen, Prince Charles held his scimitar in the air and swayed from side to side with the Arab tribesmen.The dancers had travelled some 370miles from the town of Onaizah to the north-west settlement of Al-Ula to perform the dance with the royal.

Each wore a traditional white flowing robes, called a thobe, and a red chequered scarf, sometimes known as a shemagh.

Charles, who is known to be a keen dancer, was asked to join the group in their dance.The Prince was quick to join the tribesmen by first resting the sword on his right shoulder and following their footsteps then later holding his weapon in the air.The dance ended with a beaming smile from the Prince, who happily handed over the sword.

Charles has spent six days touring the Middle East, visiting countries including Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait.

His visit to the historic monuments in the ancient settlement of Al Ula are his final day in Saudi Arabia.
