Nabil Matar, Community Activist and Founder of the United American Lebanese Federation, Passes
Nabil Matar, Age 55, Arab American community activist and leader died on March 1, 2009.
He was the loving husband of Rana. Father of Robert, Gina, and Rogee. Beloved brother of Aida (Samir) Kostantinidis, Samia, Samir (Mona), and John (Samira). Devoted uncle to several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Matar, was a devoted member of St. Rafka Maronite Church in Livonia. He will be remembered for his love of family and his passion for business. He was the long time president of Matar Hospitality, owning several Big Boy Restaurants. He was also a board member of the Michigan Restaurant Association.
As a community activist, Matar was the former president and founder of the United American Lebanese Federation, and had a deep love for his native Lebanon. He was a former board member of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce.
Visitation Wednesday 3-9 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd., Livonia. Thursday, prayers at the funeral home at 9 a.m. then to St. Rafka Maronite (aka St. Maurice) Catholic Church, 32765 Lyndon, Livonia for 10 a.m. Mass. Burial at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Rafka Maronite Catholic Church.
