Michigan ADC Participates in Rally Against Lowe's
On Saturday, December 17, 2011, ADC Michigan and various community leaders and activists participated in an interfaith demonstration against Lowe’s at the Lowe’s store located at 23111 Outer Drive in Allen Park, Michigan. The event wasorganized by the African American Ministers Leadership Council (AAMLC) in conjunction with the Highland Park NAACP in response to Lowe’s succumbing to pressure by anti-Muslim bigots by pulling their advertisements from TLC’s new reality show, “All-American Muslim.” ADC Michigan joined over 250 protesters standing up against hatred, bigotry, and religious intolerance. Protesters held signs stating “Boycott Bigotry” and “We are All Americans.”
“This is a very diverse crowd consisting of both Muslim and Christian Americans standing up for what we all believe in, that America is a place of inclusion and not exclusion,” stated Attorney and ADC Advisory Board Member Ali Hammoud. “ It is a shame that Muslim Americans are left to protect the basic rights and liberties that are afforded to all Americans by the Constitution,” continued Hammoud.
Imad Hamad, ADC Senior National Advisor and Regional Director stated, “This is not solely about Lowe’s. In the bigger picture, it is about our shared American values and Lowe’s was one slap in the face. Lowe’s cannot shake the foundation of our rich American diversity despite its biased stance against TLC’s ‘All-American Muslim’ and the diverse crowd at the protest is a testament to this.”
