Islamic Information Center Now Accepting Applications for Gemstone Summer Internship Program
The Islamic Information Center has multiple openings for its Gemstone Summer Internship to take place at IIC’s headquarters in Washington DC for the Summer of 2009. IIC’s Washington DC office is located in the National Press Club, an international hub for news media.
This will be an exciting opportunity to work towards a positive goal for the Muslim community, while gaining valuable experience with insider D.C. politics. Additionally, interns will be able to get a first hand look at Islam in the political arena, working with various media organizations to promote IIC efforts.
Interns will be responsible for coordinating efforts with Embassy, Senate, Congressional, and other Federal offices and inviting them to IIC events, or supplying Islamic information resources to these offices.
Interns will also be responsible for coordinating meetings Islamic Information Centerwith local and national news media organizations. Interns will host a mid-summer Conference Meeting with other area D.C. Muslim interns, in order to foster a positive relationship with like-minded activists, and to learn about efforts being done in the summer.
Other responsibilities will include projects devoted to increasing the positive image of Islam, through various methods, including, but not limited to press releases, media contacts, and other related efforts.
Requirements:
* Applicants must be US Citizens and must have completed at least one year of college level education.
* The internship requires that the full Islamic dress code be observed at the office or whenever representing IIC.
* The internship is a full time, paid position, with no other benefits at this time.
* The pay will be approximately $1,000 dollars per month and will run from June to August.
* Applications must be received by February 23rd, 2009 at 5:00 pm.
* We ask that any applicants realize that they will be representing Islam as taught by the Holy Prophet and his Ahlul Bayt in Shia Ithnaa Asheri view, however applicants of all belief sets are invited!
