Montreal based singer-songwriter Chantal Chamandy, will premiere her new Public Television special, Chantal Live at the Pyramids, on Saturday evening February 9th, at the Arab American National Museum, 13624 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI, 48126.
Chamandy was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of Greek/Egyptian and Lebanese parentage. She moved to Montreal, Canada when she was a young girl, and speaks French, Italian and Spanish as well as Arabic and English.

The Egyptian government granted permission for Chamandy to record Chantal Live at the Pyramids, with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, before a capacity audience of several thousand people. She is the first artist given permission to record a TV broadcast and distribution as a DVD.

Chamandy was accompanied by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and her own musicians and dancers, along with an Egyptian dance troupe and the Cairo Opera House Ballet Company.

Chamandy’s concert will be distributed nationally to public broadcast stations across America. The show will begin airing in March 2008 and will air locally on Detroit Public Television, Channel 56, beginning Friday, March 14th for the first time. Television viewers will be able to enjoy the performance, which will also include cultural, historical and tourist elements, with commentary by the singer-songwriter.

“It is fantastic that this production will be eventually seen by hundreds of thousands of people in North America,” said Chamandy, “I am happy that this event and TV show afforded me the opportunity to perform before an Egyptian audience, and I want it to serve as a window to the cultural richness of my ancestral country and to promote peace and harmony through my music.”

With the recent release of her album “Love Needs You” in spring 2007, Chamandy moved to the top 100, based on Soundscan’s figures for album sales in Canada. Last year, her single “Feels Like Love” climbed the charts only three weeks after its release, reaching 25th spot in the BDS top 50 and 10th spot in the top 25 for the adult contemporary category. The single was certified platinum by the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) in 2007.

Her new single “Baladi” will be released in conjunction with her PBS television special in 2008.
