SUMMARY:Young Syrian Lenses: Photo Exhibition and Community Event
DESCRIPTION:INDIANA\n\nJoin us Saturday May 2nd\, for a Syria Photo Gallery
Exhibition\, talk on Syria\, and community fundraiser. SAC Government Rel
ations Director and Senior Political Adviser\, Mohammed Ghanem will be joi
ning us to discuss current developments in Syria\, their advocacy work in
Washington\, and how to best advocate for Syria.\n\nThis event will be in
special recognition and memory of our heroic Peter Kassig\, with exclusive
photos of Peter during his time in Syria and a segment of the evening ded
icated to him and his family.\n\nAlso joining us will be special guest and
Syrian activist Karam AlHamad. Karam is a freelance Syrian photographer a
nd photojournalist from Deir Ezzour. His passion for media has given him e
xtensive experience as a freelance photographer picked up by Reuters\, Fre
nch Agency News\, and The New York Times\, as well as a variety of magazin
es and newspapers. Mr. Hamad was one of the earliest participants of the p
eaceful protests against the Syrian regime\, calling for democratic change
. His dedication to democratic ideals is demonstrated by more than just hi
s expertise in photojournalism\, but also by his commitment as a humanitar
ian\; Karam translated for and assisted Peter Kassig during his time provi
ding aid in his city\, becoming his dear friend\, and will be honoring his
memory with special photos taken with Peter to be displayed in the photo
gallery. Karam has been detained by the regime on four different occasions
(including a year of torture in a Syrian jail)\, risking his life to docu
ment the conflict in Syria through photos and for his relentless activism.
Despite these grave setbacks\, Mr. Hamad returned to his camera and activ
ism immediately upon his release and continues to venture to find new aven
ues for bringing peace and democracy to his beloved Syria.\n\nYou will not
want to miss his eye opening account!\n\n\nThis event is open to the comm
unity and nearby university students.\n\nRefreshments will be served. For
