What do the dramatic rise of ISIS and the US-led battle against it portend for the future of Syria and its protracted civil war? Has the US-led intervention against ISIS strengthened the position of the Assad regime, effectively making the Syrian dictator a US ally against the “Islamic State”? Should the US upgrade its support for Syria’s rebel forces in their ongoing battle against both ISIS and Assad? What does the provisional nuclear accord between Iran and the US mean for the future of Iraq and Syria and the changing geopolitics of the Middle East?
CMES is thrilled to host this forum with Ambassador Frederic Hof and Rafif Jouejati on these and other urgent questions.
Amb. Frederic C. Hof is a Resident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East. He was previously a Special Advisor to President Obama for transition in Syria and the Special Coordinator for Regional Affairs in the US Department of State’s Office of the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace.
Rafif Jouejati is the founder and Director of the Foundation to Restore Equality and Education in Syria (FREE-Syria) and the English-language spokesperson for the Local Coordinating Committees of Syria. She was a participant in CMES’ 2013 conference “Resolving the Syria Crisis” and a contributor to our book “The Syria Dilemma.”
This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Lunch will be provided.
