 ugaighis for a conversation on the future of Libya.  An eyewitness to the
  struggle\, Dr. Bugaighis will provide a first-hand account of the current
  situation and offer her thoughts onthe future of the country.\nDr. Bugaig
 his is a cousin to Salwa Bugaighis\, a tireless and passionate human right
 s lawyer and activist killed by militants in June 2014\, and a friend to J
 . Christopher Stevens\, the former U.S. Ambassador to Libya killed in Beng
 hazi in September 2012.  This event also provides an opportunity to refle
 ct on the contributions of Salwa and Chris - both with strong ties to the 
 University of Washington and Seattle - and the countless others who have l
 ost their lives in this struggle.\nDr. Anne Stevens\, a pediatric rheumato
 logist at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the sister of Ambassador Chris
  Stevens\, will offer a personal introduction.\nAbout Dr. Laila Bugaighis\
 nDr. Laila Bugaighis is a leader in healthcare reform and human rights adv
 ocacy in Libya.  She is CEO and Deputy Director General of the Benghazi M
 edical Center\, a member of the Scientific Committee for Reproductive Heal
 th of Libya\, and a member of the Libyan-EU initiative for healthcare syst
 ems reform.\nDr. Bugaighis is also the founder of the National Protection 
 Against Violence Committee\, which aims to implement a comprehensive progr
 am for gender-based violence in Libya\, and the co-founder of Al Tawafuk A
 l Watani\, a political NGO working to raise awareness about democracy\, in
 clusivity\, social justice\, human rights and cultural reform.\nThis event
  is co-sponsored by the Jackson School of International Studies and the Ma
