 nd Al Jazeera\, currently based in Ferguson\, Missouri) on their experienc
 es working as social-justice oriented freelancers in conflict areas\, as w
 ell as tributes to Ali Mustafa from those who worked with him.\n\nAll proc
 eeds from this event will go towards establishing an annual Ali Mustafa Me
 morial Award for freelance journalists. Information about the award\, appl
 ication process and nominations will be introduced during this event\, wit

 sed freelance photojournalist Ali Mustafa was killed in an aerial bombing 
 carried out by the Assad government in Syria along with seven other civili
 ans. Ali is joined by a long list of journalists who have been killed on t
 he job in Syria and in other conflict zones around the world. Freelancers 
 are especially vulnerable to these kinds of dangerous conditions\, lacking
  the institutional support and networks of more established journalists. T
