Loyola University’s Syria Awareness Week
This March 15th will mark the 4th year anniversary of the Syrian Crisis. Join us the week of March16th -20th as we shed light on the current situation in Syria and raise funds through Karam Foundation* for Syrian Refugees! We will be having events daily and tabling throughout the week in Damen. We hope to see everyone!
Monday March 16th
– CARDS4SYRIA: Come find our table in Damen Student Center from 11am-4pm and write a heartfelt letter to a Syrian Refugee
– Bazaar: While you are in Damen head to room 114 from 11am-4pm to browse our vendors and shop! The proceeds from our Bazaar will go to Karam Foundation
– Ghosts of Aleppo Chai Chat: Join us Monday night in Cuneo 109 from 7pm-11pm for our Chai Chat screening and discussion of Vice’s Ghosts of Aleppo! (Snacks will be provided). We will be discussing the discourse in Syria.
Tuesday March 17th
– A day in the life of a Syrian Refugee: Come stop by at our table anywhere from 11am-3pm and 2pm-5pm and tour a refugee camp
– Sow a knot to help heal Syria’s wound: We will also be sewing a canvas of Syria! Come contribute your Knot and help heal Syria’s wound!
– Bazaar: Missed the Bazaar on Monday? No worries! The bazaar will be going on from 11am-4pm in Damen 214
Wednesday March 18th
– Sow a Knot: Come stop by our table from 12pm-4pm in Damen to Sow a Knot and help heal Syria’s wound!
– Dinner with Karam Foundation: Join us Wednesday night in McCormick lounge from 6pm-9pm as Karam Foundation’s representative Lina Sergie talks about the conditions in the camps and the refugee crisis. Also joining us will be renowned Syrian artist Tammam Azzam who creates his art using images of the Syrian War and classic masterpieces. Dinner will be served!
Thursday March 19th
Risking Lives to Save Lives: Join us in Cuneo 109 from 6:30pm-10pm as critical care specialist and president of Syrian American Medical Society Dr. Zaher Sahloul speaks out about his time in the refugee camps!
Friday March 20th Die-In
Come join us for a die-in Damen’s food court at 12:00 pm
*Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is a nonprofit humanitarian organization established in 2007. Its volunteer physicians deliver direct medical care in Syria, Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon.
*Karam Foundation is a non for profit organization that campaigns for the humanitarian and medical relief in Syria, delivering aid to the most desperate parts of Syria.
