March 2015 marks the 4th anniversary of the Syria crisis. “Life in Refuge” is a series of powerful exhibits in the heart of Washington DC to shed light on the plight of millions of Syrians impacted by ongoing conflict. The exhibits will be featured on Freedom Plaza on Friday, March 27th and Saturday, March 28th from 10 AM – 6 PM.

The exhibits will highlight powerful narratives, imagery and illustrations of the lives of Syrian refugees.

Join us and stand #withsyria.

EXHIBITS INCLUDE:

1. Mothers and Daughters of Syria – Eight sketches by artist Anna Cairns will accompany stories of Syrian women and girls exhibiting incredible resilience in the face of adversity. The exhibit will be set up in a refugee tent.

2. Dear World Syria – American photographers Robert Fogarty and Ben Reece gave Syrian refugees in Jordan a voice through powerful images of messages they displayed on their bodies for the world and global leaders to see. These portraits will be featured, and event participants can have their own “Dear World” portrait taken in solidarity that they stand #WithSyria.

3. Scars and Smiles, an exhibit by Syrian-American Ridwan Adhami, seeks to bring the faces and personal stories of those hardest hit by tragedy to a wider public, demonstrating not just their pain, but the hope and joy they reveal to the world.

Organized by CARE in partnership with Islamic Relief, Oxfam, Save the Children, Syria Relief and Development & Syrian American Medical Society.
