SUMMARY:International Women's Day with Rasmea Odeh
DESCRIPTION:ILLINOIS\n\nCelebrate International Women's Day 2015\n\nSponsor
ed by Committee to Stop FBI Repression\, Freedom Road Socialist Organizati
on\, the U.S. Palestinian Community Network\, and the American Party of La
bor\n\nMarch 8\, International Women's Day\, born of the struggle of worki
ng women\, of immigrants\, in New York 100 years ago - is a day of celebra
tion and resistance. There can be no more fitting way to mark the occasion
than to revisit the past struggles and victories won\, in order to contin
ue to build the struggle for women’s liberation.\n\nWe’ll have as our
special guest Rasmea Odeh. Her courage and strength as she faces ongoing p
ersecution by the U.S. Dept. of Justice has made her a symbol of Palestini
an women's resistance\, and of women in the struggles for national liberat
ion all over the world.\n\nOther guests include:\nMariame Kaba\, founder o
f the NIA Project in Chicago\, recognized for her role in bringing forward
the Black youth led movement following the uprising in Ferguson.\n\nSarah
Chambers\, a member of the bargaining committee of the Chicago Teachers U
nion (CTU) that led the strike in 2012\, and co-chair of the Caucus of Ran
 k and File Educators\, leaders in CTU.\n\nKait McIntyre\, a leading anti-w
ar activist in Chicago\, and a member of Freedom Road Socialist Organizati
on.\n\nPlus cultural offerings from Chicago and the Philippines.\n\nIntern
ational Women's Day in 2015: the system we live under is waging a war on w
omen. Working class women\; African American women and immigrant Latinas d
ealing with national oppression and racist discrimination\; women in the o
ppressed nations of the world suffering under the wars and occupations of
U.S. imperialism: all can take heart on this day. Women’s liberation is
part of the bright future\, where capitalism is ended and replaced by soci
 alism.\n\nLong Live International Women's Day!
