The Impact of Falling Oil Prices on the Future of the Middle East
WASHINGTON DC
The Middle East Institute is pleased to host former Algerian Energy Minister HE Chakib Khelil along with energy experts Herman Franssen (The Middle East Institute), Jean Francois Seznec (The Middle East Institute), and Sara Vakhshouri (SVB Energy International) for a panel discussion about the collapse of oil prices and its impact on the MENA region. After a general assessment of the oil market and the causes of the swift decline of prices by more than 40% in the last 6 months, the panelists will examine the rationale behind Saudi Arabia’s decision not to cut oil production and the geopolitical implications of the price collapse, with a focus on the Gulf region. MEI’s Paul Salem will moderate the discussion.
