Remembering the names of the people killed in Syria.
How does one begin to quantify the dead when they are in the tens of thousands? How does one begin to comprehend the sheer loss of life that the Syrian people have suffered in their quest for freedom and dignity? How does one remember? How does a community vow never to forget? In an effort to answer these impossible questions, the “Over 100,000 dead in Syria. How many more?” oral memorial was created.
Last year, on March 12, 2014, a group of Syrians and Americans gathered in front of the White House for 72 hours straight and read the names of Syrians who lost their lives.
On March 11, 2015, a group of Syrians and Americans will gather in front of the White House to read the names of 100,000 Syrians who have been killed over the past four years. Below is the reading schedule:
Wednesday, March 11 (noon-6pm): Remembering Victims of Barrel Bombs and Beheading
Thursday, March 12 (noon-6pm): Remembering Detainees Killed Under Torture
Friday, March 13 (noon-6pm): Remembering the 20,000 Children Killed
Sunday, March 15 (midnight-10am): Remembering the Dead from the Past Year
We invite you to join our mission to honor our dead and shed light on the Syrian tragedy and the ongoing atrocities committed by the Assad regime on our people.
