Community Foundation Supports Arab and American Chaldean Council (ACC) Refugee Outreach
The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan awarded a grant of $150,000 over two years to the Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC), a non profit organization, for support for refugee acculturation outreach services. ACC’s Community and Family Strengthening and Integration Project will target the Metro Detroit Arab and Chaldean population.
The project will consist of the following 6 components:
Target refugee community involvement and development
–Bilingual orientation workshop series
–Building the home-school partnership
–Prevention, education, and health awareness activities
–English as a Second Language (ESL) and Vocational ESL classes
–Employability training
The purpose of the Community and Family Strengthening and Integration Project is to help new refugees learn the necessary skills for American survival, ESL, employment and training, education, and citizenship.
ACC is the premier non-profit human service organization providing services to the Middle Eastern and mainstream communities in Southeast Michigan. As a bridge of understanding, ACC maximizes the skills, resources and expertise of the community to:
Build cooperation and understanding Raise the level of individuals’ well-being Increase cross-cultural understanding through education. Deliver human services, counseling and opportunities. Gear community members towards achievement. Empower through employment training and placement.
