The history of the Arab American and Chaldean Council's (ACC) commitment to excellence is exemplified by the impressive growth from a single office in 1979 to 39 outreach offices today. ACC is the largest community based, human service organization assisting the Middle Eastern communities in the U.S., providing services specifically tailored for this unique population. Acting as a bridge of understanding, ACC maximizes the skills, resources and expertise of the community by building community cooperation and coordination raising the level of the community
With a growing Middle Eastern population in Hamtramck, ACC is committed to providing services to improve the quality of life in the community. The ACC WIC offices have bilingual staff to enhance service with their Middle Eastern clients. Since its inception in 1974, WIC provides nutrition education, coupons for nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, free lead testing, and referrals to other health services. For program eligibility, families must be low income, which is determined at the enrollment appointment. WIC enrolls pregnant or postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five. The ACC/WIC Program is funded by the USDA and administered by the Michigan Department of Community Health WIC Program and Wayne County Department of Public Health. ACC is the premier non-profit human service organization providing services to the Middle Eastern and mainstream communities in Southeast Michigan.
