The Lebanese Club, was founded in fall 2006. This year, the group has educated students about the Lebanese culture through food, speakers, pictures and other interactive events. Now, with the freshman year behind them, the groups organizers are looking for new events and more participants to grow the organization. The Lebanese Club has been active in its first year. The members participated in Convocation activities, Go for the Gold, held a Lebanese Independence Dinner and a Lebanese Soiree. In addition, the group also participated along with other student organizations in the Multicultural Holiday Event at Meadow Brook Hall, a Quarter Life event and OU s Global Market. The group has a focus on increasing Lebanese, Arabic and Middle Eastern related events, both socially and academically. It is the Club's hope to encourage the development of an Arabic Language Department within Oakland University. The club is also interested to create belly-dancing lessons on campus. This is a great way to show others a very important part of the culture. They are also interested to become involved in Student Congress as this is a very important part of Oakland University. The Lebanese Club is also working with Lebanese magazine and the Lebanese-American Chamber of Commerce to provide more information and resources to whomever is interested. Anyone with a passion to promote the Lebanese culture is welcome to join. One does not have to be Lebanese to join or participate in activities. Everybody is always welcome to come to meetings, events and gatherings.
