International Association for Organ Donation
Since the inception of the organization in 1999, the International Association for Organ Donation (a 501 c (3) non-profit organization), has been active in organ, tissue, and bone marrow donations in the minority communities of southeast Michigan and has enrolled almost 9,000 people to the Michigan Donor Registry. The IAOD is committed to continuing our efforts to educate as many individuals as possible concerning the enormous need for organ donors. The primary targets of the organization are the largest ethnic communities most affected by the disparity between donors and recipients. These communities include the Arab/Chaldean, African, Asian and Hispanic American communities. As a result, IAOD is second only to the Secretary of State in enrolling organ donors to the State registry. Through their relationships with major corporations, higher education institutions, community leaders, social service and religious groups, as well as health care affiliates, the IAOD is able to expand their audience and continually develop new ways to broaden our approach and techniques to provide valuable information to the public. The organization is comprised of a full time staff, a 30 member board of trustees and many volunteers varying from diverse professional backgrounds in healthcare, business, education and government.
