Arab Stereotypes Exhibit to be Featured at Museum
The work of an expert on Arab stereotypes in U.S. films, television and other popular culture will be displayed this week at the Arab American National Museum.
The museum in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn will present “A is for Arab: Stereotypes in U.S. Popular Culture” starting Wednesday and running through Oct. 28. The exhibit is a primer on the work of author and filmmaker Jack Shaheen.
The museum says the exhibit will be free and open to the public in its Library and Resource Center. It features images from Shaheen’s archive at New York University, where he’s a visiting scholar.
The exhibit travels next month to Indiana State University and then to Denver for the Middle East Studies Association’s annual meeting.
