Arab Film Festival Screening Football, Fighters And Disney
Freedom fighters, football and female artists are among the diverse range of topics explored on screen through this year’s Arab Film Festival.
Fairfield resident Mouna Zaylah is co-director of the festival and finds it hard to pick a highlight among so many gems in the festival’s line-up.
“The program reflects the diversity of Arab culture,: she said.
The opening night film When I Saw You is about the Palestinian resistance in 1967 and ends on a hopeful note.
“Our selection was made well before the current chaos in Palestine started,” she said.
“It was unintentionally, but we’re really happy to be able to present this.”
The Palestinian star of the film Saleh Bakri will be on hand at the screening and at a special forum at 2pm on August 17.
He will share his views on acting, film and particularly on his identity as a Palestinian actor living in Israel amid the turmoil of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Disney’s first ever Arabic-language film, The United, is also set to be another highlight as it deals with football, while Ten Years of my Life is a politically charged documentary focusing on the 2003 invasion of Iraq through the lives of middle class women.
