Arab American Women's Business Council Elects Executive Board
The Arab American Women’s Business Council (AAWBC) elected Renée Ahee, executive director of the National Arab American Medical Association, president for 2014. Ahee is a co-founder of the organization, whose mission is to bring together Arab American business and professional women of diverse disciplines and industries and to provide opportunities for them to grow professionally through leadership, education, scholarships, internships and cultural programs.
Ahee has served as NAAMA’s Executive Director since 2009; NAAMA is a non-profit educational and humanitarian organization for Arab American physicians, dentists, pharmacists and other licensed healthcare professionals established in 1975. She is also owner and President of Ahee Communications, Inc., a public relations and marketing communications firm, which she established in 1999.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marygrove College, Detroit, and a Master of Finance from Walsh College, Troy. Ahee is president of the board for Metro Solutions, treasurer of the National American Arab Nurses Association and a member of the Advisory Board of the Lebanese American Chamber of Commerce.
Elected to the AAWBC Executive Committee are Jameleh Haidous (1st and mortgage banker for Fifth Third Bank; Fadwa Fawaz (Secretary), risk management manager, Henry Ford Health Systems; and Mona Hammoud (Treasurer), vice president and small business banker, PNC Bank.
Founded in 2007 as a 501c3 nonprofit professional organization, AAWBC addresses the needs of Arab American women professionals and business owners as well as young Arab American women seeking professional or business careers in Michigan and across the country. The grassroots effort to form the AAWBC represents a cross-section of Arab American women in several professions and businesses, including nursing, marketing and public relations, public affairs, engineering, real estate valuation, law, academia, sales and financial planning. The organization is recruiting members as well as sponsoring companies who see opportunities in the Arab American women’s market.
