ADC Opening: National Organizer and Membership Coordinator
About the Position:
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) seeks to fill the position of National Organizer and Membership Coordinator. The qualified individual will be responsible for building membership, planning, and implementing the external organizing program, preparing organizational and informational literature, leading recruitment drives and other issues related to organizing. The qualified individual will also work closely with ADC chapters, members, community leaders and build coalitions which will help to strengthen ADC’s grassroots network. Reporting to the President of ADC, the ideal candidate will have proven experience in grassroots organizing, mobilizing the community around key issues, as well as developing and maintaining relationships with members to strengthen organizational impact.
About the Organization:
Founded in 1980, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is the largest Arab American grassroots organization committed to protecting civil rights, promoting mutual understanding, and preserving the Arab-American cultural heritage.
Core Responsibilities:
● Create and build a network of chapters, recruit new members, maintain old members, encourage and support community participation in ADC activities and events.
● Experience in recruitment, campaign development, policy, advocacy and/or networking preferred.
● Experience in working with a diverse set of individuals and organizations whose interests may be broadly divergent at times.
● Build and promote healthy partnerships with the community, relevant organizations and elected officials that support ADC’s mission.
● Acting as a representative of the ADC national office including but not limited to representing ADC at various conferences, both outside ADC as well as at ADC sponsored events.
● Supporting the work of ADC departments and programs including assisting the ADC National Office in the integration of membership development with organizing strategies implemented by local chapters.
● Considerable experience in youth organizing and student leadership development.
● Perform other related duties as assigned by the President of ADC.
Ideal Qualifications:
● Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
● Minimum of 1-2 years of community organizing, political, legislative, or related experience.
● Knowledge of the Arabic language and Middle East preferred but not necessary.
● Ability to prioritize, multi-task, delegate, and lead by example.
● Strong writing, public speaking skills and the ability to motivate others towards action.
● Solid understanding of and experience with social media and e-advocacy campaigns.
● Exemplary time management skills, strong work-ethic, detail-driven, team player, and a commitment to doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
● Participate in and report at general staff meetings and participating and/or taking leadership in ADC fundraising activities.
● Door to door canvasing and/or on the ground organizing strongly preferred.
● Knowledge of managing membership arm of an organization highly desired.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
● A working knowledge of database programs and the ability to develop an organizing database. Experience with CRM data bases such as Salsa and Blackbaud a plus.
Other Requirements:
● Flexibility to work beyond regular core business hours–must be willing to work some nights and/or weekends.
● Must be able to drive and maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable car, as well as possess personal credit cards. Be able to drive long distances, and travel throughout the country to different states and cities. Travel and work away from home.
