ACCESS Along with Muslim, Arab & South Asian American Community Leaders Meet with DHS Secretary Napolitano
Muslim, Arab, Sikh and South Asian American community leaders met yesterday with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to discuss joint efforts against domestic violence extremists and to promote meaningful, positive and authentic dialogue. The community leaders welcomed a commitment by the secretary to promote meaningful, positive and authentic dialogue. They also expressed concern about DHS policies such as profiling by race, national origin, and religion, at airports and the U.S. border, that have eroded the government’s trust and credibility within the communities.
“We thank Secretary Napolitano for her invitation and her open and honest dialogue. It was also valuable to continue discussions with the civil rights division of DHS. Their leadership on this issue is crucial,” said Hassan Jaber, Executive Director ACCESS.
