Arab Journalists Meet in Muscat
Visiting Chairman of Kuwait Journalists Association Ahmad Bahbahani affirmed yesterday paramount significance of meetings of the Arab Journalists General Union currently hosted by the Sultanate of Oman. Bahbahani, a leading member of the Kuwaiti delegation at the meetings, said in a statement that the Kuwaiti federation had always taken part in such meetings since transfer of the headquarters of the federation from Baghdad.
Up to 65 Arab media figures, journalists, representatives of associations and unions are taking part in the meetings, said Bahbahahi, asserting the significance of the broad meeting that coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Sultanate national days. “We are pleased to be in Oman to attend the important and broad meeting grouping representatives of the Arab states that are members in the federation,” the chairman of the Kuwaiti association said. “It is an opportunity for the Arab journalists to examine firsthand the comprehensive development in the Sultanate under the rule of Sultan Qaboos,” he said, noting the marked achievements of the Omanis in various fields.
Faisal Al-Ginaee, the secretary of the association, the head of the Kuwaiti delegation, echoed identical sentiments toward the Sultanate, also noting that the meetings would involve the Permanent Bureau of the Arab Journalists Union. Such gatherings are necessary to enhance interaction and experience-exchange between Omani and Arab journalists, he said.
Agenda of the meetings deal with a host of issues concerning the Arab media and the relations between the Arab federation and the International Journalists Federation. Moreover, the conferees will examine reports by sub-committees. The Kuwaiti association has been keen on supporting the Arab federation since its foundation in Kuwait in 1964, he said.
The Kuwaiti delegation arrived in Oman on Saturday to participate in the meetings of the Arab body. Meanwhile, a senior Omani official expressed hope that the “Arab journalists’ pen” be used for development of the nation. Yousef Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, the official in charge of foreign affairs, said in a statement after inauguration of the scheduled meeting of the Arab Journalists General Union, such a gathering constituted a new stride “for the Arab journalists’ pen with regard of conveying the facts to the Arab citizens, for sake of serving development and progress in the Arab countries as well as supporting the Arab causes with media outlets in the 21st century.
These meetings are helpful for the Arab journalists to tackle issues of the Arab communities and support the Arab causes as well as enlighten the peoples about the guiding role of the press, he said.
