My Galilee Leadership Program Seeks Applicants
From July 31st to August 14th 2011, selected American university students and young professionals will travel to the Galilee, where they will have the opportunity to meet and interact with their Arab counterparts.
This new initiative will allow American university students and Arab university students of the Galilee–or “Citizen Ambassadors” as they are called by the program–to build bridges of understanding at the citizen level and create opportunities for future interaction between them.
The two-week program will include:
Daily dialogue sessions with Arab University students facilitated by professional conflict-resolution specialists
Daily Arabic language classes
Visits to numerous historical sties
The opportunity to experience the culture, food and music of the Galilee first hand
Interactions with elected officials, heads of organizations, and religious leaders. That gives participants a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and serve as true American Civic Ambassadors.
The program’s primary objective is to bring together future leaders in forums that allow them not only to address salient topics, but to develop strategies that can facilitate the progress of American-Middle Eastern relations. While attempting to form a bridge of civic understanding, participants discuss political, cultural, personal, and familial issues to dispel stereotypes and misconceptions that run rampant in both American and Arab media outlets.
