Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture presents Grammy Award Winner Fathy Salama
Grammy award-winning composer and pianist Fathy Salama collaborates with Al-Bustan Takht Ensemble for an afternoon of contemporary Arab music. The Egyptian artist is known for exploring the traditional structure of Arab composition with the freedom of jazz.
As part of his residency, Fathy Salama will engage in educational demonstrations and public events leading up to the culminating performance at the Trinity Center for Urban Life in Center City Philadelphia on Sunday April 27 at 4:00pm.
He will also complete a Guest Artist Residency entitled, “Making Music in Egypt: A Conversation with Fathy Salama,” at the Penn Museum’s Egypt (Sphinx) Gallery on Wed, April 23 at 6PM. The event is free and open to the public. The artist will speak about his work, illustrating with short musical interludes.
Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting and teaching Arab culture through arts and language. The 2014 Concert Series is made possible with the support of the William Penn Foundation and the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art’s Building Bridges Program.
