Nothing Wrong With This New York Line-Up
The Detroit Tigers sent the New York Yankees packing, but you won’t want to miss the next group of New Yorkers to hit Motown.
A passionate performance by the New York Arabic Orchestra (NYAO) is part of a busy weekend (yes, including the World Series) that will have downtown Detroit hopping this Saturday night, Oct. 27. Baseball tickets are sold out, but you can still be a part of this Big Night, which marks the Detroit debut of America’s leading purveyor of classical Arabic music and features an all-star lineup of Lebanese musicians.
NYAO Music Director Bassam Saba will be joined by his 30-piece ensemble and chorus with special guest vocalist the Lebanese lyric soprano Ghada Ghanem and an appearance by Lebanese tenor Naji Youssef. A recent lineup addition, Lebanese qanun player Jamal Sinno, was just called up from Simon Shaheen’s Near Eastern Music Ensemble. Read more about all the artists and view video clips at www.arabamericanmuseum.org.
Southfield, Michigan-based MEA-TV & Radio, a media sponsor of the NYAO performance, will record the live concert for multiple broadcasts, the first at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. It will air on Comcast channel 667 in metro Detroit; Cox channel 480 in the Washington, D.C. area; on the International Dish throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico; and online at www.meatv-radio.com.
This performance by the New York Arabic Orchestra serves as the 9th Annual Museum Gala, the largest annual fundraiser for the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. The Gala is made possible by many generous sponsors including Comcast, Comerica, DTE Energy and Mr. Jacques Nasser.
