TPS Registration Reminder to Eligible Syrians
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that Syrian nationals in the United States may apply for Temporary Protective Status (TPS) on March 29, 2012. USCIS grants TPS when nationals of a country are prevented from returning to that country safely.
Designation of Syria as a country eligible for TPS allows Syrian nationals that arrived to the US prior to March 29, 2012 to stay in the US for a temporary period of 18 months. Registration for TPS is open for a 180-day period. Therefore, applications must be filed March 29, 2012 through September 25, 2012.
Important Notice: TPS registration for Syrian nationals ends two months from today. Syrians eligible for TPS must file their application no later than September 25, 2012.
ADC filed a formal petition with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requesting that TPS be granted to Syrian nationals present in the US on January 25, 2012. Since approval of the petition, ADC has filed multiple TPS applications and continues to strongly advocate on behalf of Syrian nationals in the US.
To learn more about TPS, please visit the USCIS website. If you would like to file a TPS petition or feel like you have an immigration matter which may force a return to Syria, please contact the ADC Legal Department by phone at 202-244-2990 or by email at legal@adc.org. The Legal Department has, and will continue, to focus on assisting Syrian nationals on a pro bono basis.
