ADC to Honor Mr. Munib Masri with Turaath Heritage Award
ADC is proud to announce that Palestinian Philanthropist Munib R. Masri will be presented with the Turaath Heritage Award on November 17th. The award will be presented at the Third Annual ADC Turaath Event, hosted in Washington, DC. Masri is recognized for his philanthropic efforts, and commitment to peace and prosperity. Masri is renowned for his generosity in the areas of social welfare and education. He is especially being recognized for his efforts to mentor the Arab Idol and Palestinian vocalist Mohamed Assaf.
The ADC third annual cultural event “Turaath: Celebrating Arab Culture in America” will take place at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 6:00 pm This year’s event is organized by ADC’s Women’s Initiative and will feature the 2013 Arab Idol winners: acclaimed Palestinian vocalist Mohammad Assaf, Syrian songstress Farah Youssef, and Lebanese vocalist Ziad Khoury.
Munib R. Masri is a founder and chairman of the Palestine Development and Investment Company (Padico), whose mission is to develop and strengthen the Palestinian economy and which has launched 35 companies in Palestine in the fields of telecom, construction, tourism, energy, finance and agriculture. He is also a founder and honorary chairman of the Welfare Association, the leading Palestinian non-governmental development organization, and the chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Palestine.
In addition, Masri is the founder and chairman of Edgo Group, an oil and gas services company operating in the Middle East for the last six decades. He is actively involved in the education sector as a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Quds University, a Trustee Emeritus at the American University of Beirut and by supporting numerous schools and universities including the Engineering and Technology College at An Najah University, which is named after him.
Masri graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in petroleum geology and holds a master’s degree in geology and government. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from a number of universities, most recently from the American University of Beirut in recognition of his contributions towards promoting social welfare, education and development in Palestine, and in particular his attempts at advancing the cause of peace.
