Associate professor at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Tolan is the co-founder of Homelands Productions and has produced radio documentaries for NPR and PRI as well as writing The Lemon Tree, a classic account of Israeli-Palestinian relations. His new book offers another perspective on the region’s search for peace as he follows Ramzi Hussein Aburedwan from his stone-throwing days as an eight-year-old Palestinian through his career as a violist with Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan orchestra and on to his return to Ramallah where he opened his own music school.
