CALIFORNIA

Resurrection Theatre and California Stage in partnership with the Jewish Voice for Peace and the Palestine American League presents My Name is Rachel Corrie on Monday April 27, 2015 at California Stage, curtain is at 7pm.

The play features Ashley Malloy and is directed by Josh Perlstein. The play was first performed at the Royal Court Theatre in England and has been subsequently performed all over the world in over 250 productions.

Rachel Corrie grew up in Olympia, Washington and traveled to Gaza with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) at the height of the second intifada in January 2003. On March 16 of that year, she was killed by an Israeli bulldozer while selflessly defending a Palestinian family’s home that was to be demolished during an Israeli military operation aimed at finding weapons and smuggling tunnels between the Rafah refugee camp and the Egyptian border. She was one of seven young people with ISM, four Americans and three Europeans, attempting non-violently to thwart the demolitions.

In the play we witness Rachel mature from a precocious and deeply perceptive adolescent in Olympia to a young woman who travels to Gaza to find her voice and her place in the world. Rachel felt she had an obligation to pursue peace in the face of unimaginable danger and suffering.

The performance will include a Q and A with the performer and discussion about the situation between the Israelis and Palestinians. All are welcome.

Don’t miss out on this special one night only performance. Tickets are $20 can be purchased online
