Do you live in the Washington, DC area?

Do you enjoy running or are you interested to start?

Want to help impoverished Palestinian students attend university in the West Bank and Gaza Strip?

Then Iqraa is for you!

Since 2008, UPA has partnered with the Iqraa running club in the Washington, DC area to raise over $162,000 for education projects in Palestine. Iqraa, which means “read” in Arabic, has trained 129 runners – including beginners – to successfully complete the Baltimore Half-Marathon or 5K or the Marine Corps Marathon or 10K.

This year, the races will be held on Oct. 17 and Oct. 25, respectively. The money they raise will go directly to the UPA Scholarship Program, which helps impoverished students attend universities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

“I loved running, but I also wanted to be involved in something bigger than myself,” said Jamylah Baruti (pictured). “So often injustices in the world are met with inaction due to apathy, fear or judgement. My individual contribution is bringing hope to Palestine by raising awareness about the need for improved educational opportunities there.”

To learn more about Iqraa and join the team for the 2015 season, come to one of the two following info sessions at UPA office:
