Anthony Shadid Among Winners of Arab American Book Award

posted on: Jul 11, 2013

The Arab American National Museum on Wednesday announced the winners. Shadid’s “House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family and a Lost Middle East” received the nonfiction award.

The fiction honor went to Joseph Geha’s “Lebanese Blonde,” a tale of drug running between Toledo, Ohio, and Lebanon during that nation’s civil war. The poetry award went to Hala Alyan for her collection entitled “Atrium: Poems.”

Shadid was honored with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award during last year’s ceremony. The longtime correspondent died in February 2012 of an apparent asthma attack while on assignment in Syria.

The awards ceremony will be held Nov. 2 at the museum in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn.
