Three students were shot dead on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They were:
– 23 year old Deah Shaddy Barakat;
– 21 year old Yusor Mohammad (wife to Deah);
– 19 year old Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha (sister to Yusor).
With a heavy heart, we invite the larger community to gather at Pace University in honor of the victims’ student-hood. With the will of Allaah, The Almighty, we will pray for them and their families, discuss their significant contributions to their respective communities, and share our thoughts on what lies ahead for the rest of us.
Candles will be distributed, but we ask that you bring some if you can! Flowers and posters are also welcomed.
Allaah says in The Qur’an:
————————–
O you who have believed. Seek help through perseverance and prayer. Indeed, Allaah is with those who persevere.
And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allaah, “They are dead.” Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to those who persevere,
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allaah, and indeed to Him is our return.”
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
