ACCESS Director Awarded American Cancer Society’s Humanitarian Award
ACCESS’ Senior Director of the Community Health & Research Center, Dr. Adnan Hammad, has been awarded the American Cancer Society’s Humanitarian Award by the American Cancer Society’s National Awards Committee.
Dr. Hammad along with ACCESS and the American Cancer Society (ACS) Great Lakes Division have worked together for many years implementing educational and training programs, promoting smoking prevention and cessation, cancer screening campaigns as well as reaching out to the Arab American community. Because of Dr. Hammad’s work and commitment, new immigrants, as well as assimilated Arab Americans, are able to receive critical health and human services despite enormous cultural barriers that often times prevent them from receiving the care and support that they need.
Dr. Hammad’s work stretches beyond the boundaries of Southeast Michigan and extends around the globe reaching people in many different nations. His Biennial National Conference on Health Issues in the Arab American Community brings together a myriad of professionals from the Medical field to share in the latest health care information. This highly acclaimed forum, with its national and international focus, develops specific action plans for reducing burden of diseases, promotes health and well-being, and bridges the gaps between racial and ethnic groups while enabling cooperation and collaboration between academic institutions, health care providers, and community-based organizations to address health concerns in the Arab American community.
