Arab America celebrated the re-branding of their new digital website and the launch of a new television channel last Thursday (January 15) at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.

Over 300 guests including dignitaries were welcomed to the pre-event reception by Warren David, president of Arab America and his wife Dr. Amal David. Opinion leaders from Arab American community organizations, corporate leaders, government and embassy representatives, and members of the media enjoyed the networking and Arab hors d’oeuvres at the reception.

Guests were then escorted to the Ballroom of the National Press Club where they were witness to a high-tech multi-media presentation by Arab America president, Warren David.

David began his presentation with a look at the digital media revolution and said “that in every generation there comes a communications phenomenon and tonight we witness the new Arab America–defining digital media via the web, social media, radio and television.”

David then spoke about the internet as the greatest invention of our lifetime. He cited statistics, such as radio taking 38 years to reach 50 million users and television taking 13 years to reach 50 million viewers. It took the Internet just 4 years to reach 50,000 visitors. He then fast forwarded to the moment and said that iPod application downloads hit 1 billion in 9 months!

Regarding the need for Arab America, David alluded to the denigrating image directed against Arabs and Arab Americans in the media including: print, radio, film and television, popular literature, textbooks, and political rhetoric.

He went on to reiterate that Arab America was established to provide an accurate image, humanizing Arabs and counter balancing negative images and stereotypes.

David reaffirmed Arab Americans have made significant contributions to the U.S. in the fields of education, science, business, entertainment, sports, music and in every facet of U.S. society and culture.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s about time for us to take control of our narrative, and tell our story,” said David. Furthermore, he noted that Arab America’s focus is to “empower the new generation of Arab Americans.”

David next spoke about the roll-out of the highly anticipated Arab America website and announced that the weekly Arab America E-News reached 100,000 subscribers–making it possibly the largest Arab American email data base in the U.S.

He then detailed the new Arab America Television channel citing that last year188.5 million Americans watched online television and in the coming year, online video users are expected to double to 1.5 Billion–online video will eventually comprise 55% of all internet traffic.

Arab America Television is a 24 hour web-based linear channel streaming in North America via the web, a new APP, and Roku. It can be accessed on smart devices through Arab America’s new App for Android and iPhone mobile devices, Google TV, and Apple TV.

As the first channel to stream educational and cultural content about the Arab world and Arab Americans. Arab America Television is a platform for award winning documentaries, feature films, comedy, and music.

Before the official launch, a surprise vocalist, Jennifer Grout, was introduced. A unique performer of Arab music, she competed recently on the Arab Voice and Arabs Got Talent. As a non-Arab from North Carolina, who barely speaks Arabic, she began by singing a classic composition by Asmahan, “Layali El Ons” and then followed by selections from the incomparable Fairouz and the legendary songstress Najah Salam.

After Grout’s exquisite performance, David called the Arab America staff and interns on stage to launch the new website and television channel to celebratory fanfare, lights, and music!
