FJK Dance: Fusion of Culture and Dance
Based in New York City, FJK Dance is a contemporary dance company founded in 2014 by Fadi J. Khoury. After years of training in both ballroom and contemporary ballet, Khoury connected the two worlds to create the FJK Movement. At its core, FJK Dance uses partnering techniques from Standard and Latin ballroom dance then fuses it with the extended lines and flow of contemporary ballet.
Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Fadi J. Khoury was surrounded by the folkloric music and dance of the Arab world. In 2005, Khoury joined the Caracalla Dance Theatre and soon after, he received a scholarship at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in NYC. It was then that he performed with different choreographers like Earl Mosley, Elisa Monte, Venti Petrov, and Edward Simon and toured the USA and Latin America with NY2Dance. In 2014 Khoury decided to manifest his innate dance methodology, creating his own movement and company FJK Dance.
