DEARBORN, Michigan — A Michigan-based philanthropic organization that helps nonprofit groups serving Arab Americans nationwide is awarding more than a dozen grants from coast to coast.

The Center for Arab American Philanthropy of Dearborn announced this week it’s distributing 13 grants worth a total of $50,000 to recipients in its home state as well as California, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota and New York.

Recipients include the Chicago Palestine Film Festival, Flint’s Arab American Heritage Council, New York City’s Noor Theatre and Somali Family Service in San Diego, California. Individual grants range from $2,000 to $5,000.

The center focused this year on human services, the arts and advocacy.

The philanthropy center was launched in 2005 by Dearborn-based ACCESS, founded as the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services.
