$1,000 Jack G. Shaheen Scholarship is Available
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee announces its 2010 Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications Scholarship. For the past 13 years, ADC has granted the $1,000 award to Arab American students who excel in media studies. Applications for the award are now being accepted. To be considered, the student must be classified as a college junior or senior or be enrolled in graduate school for the 2010-2011 academic year. They must be majoring in journalism, radio, television and/or film. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be a U.S. citizen of Arab heritage.
To be considered, applicants must submit the following items to the ADC Research Institute:
– A one-page paper that includes a statement explaining the student’s goals,
– an admission stating that the student is a U.S. citizen of Arab heritage, and a reason why the student deserves the scholarship.
– Two original signed letters of recommendation from mass communication professors.
– Copies of the student’s articles, videos, films, etc. (Items received will not be returned to student.)
– Official academic transcript that includes student’s GPA.
– Permanent home address, phone number, e-mail address, and phone number during the school year.
The deadline for applications is April 1, 2010. Incomplete or late applications will NOT be accepted.
